EDF — European Defence Fund

The EU's flagship instrument for collaborative defence research and capability development, run by the Commission (DG DEFIS). The 2026 annual work programme earmarks about €1 billion across roughly 30 topics.

What it funds

Collaborative research (typically 100% funded) and capability development (co-funded) projects, from disruptive tech to large systems.

Who is eligible

Consortia of at least three eligible entities established in at least three member states or associated countries; entities must be EU/associated-controlled, with infrastructure in the Union — foreign-controlled entities need an Article 9 derogation.

Apply to the open EDF calls on the EU Funding & Tenders Portal (framework programme EDF), as a consortium.
