The French defense economy represents one of the most integrated national models in Europe, combining industrial, technological, and social dimensions. Under the Military Programming Law (Loi de programmation militaire, LPM) 2024–2030, the government has committed to reinforcing both operational readiness and the sovereign character of defense production.
More than 4,000 companies constitute France’s defense industrial and technological base, supporting nearly 210,000 direct jobs. Alongside them, the Ministry of the Armed Forces employs 260,000 civilian and military personnel whose families contribute to 200,000 additional induced jobs across local services and commerce.
