The operative rule is that only legal entities established in the Union or an associated country and having their executive management structures in the Union or an associated country may be recipients of Union funding. The concept of “associated countries” is defined in the EDIP Regulation as members of the European Free Trade Association that are members of the European Economic Area applying the Regulation in accordance with the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
