With the groundbreaking ceremony in Baisogala, in Lithuania’s Radviliškis district, Germany’s Rheinmetall AG has launched one of the most strategically significant defence investments in Eastern Europe. The project encompasses two integrated facilities — a 155mm artillery ammunition plant and a Centre of Excellence for propellant production — designed to establish Lithuania as a core manufacturing hub in Europe’s ammunition supply chain.
During the event, attended by Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda and Rheinmetall CEO Armin Papperger, Vilnius signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the German defence conglomerate for a total investment exceeding €400 million.
