Objective
Plastics and rubbers are broadly used to produce different products. Unfortunately, their waste does not degrade and remain in the environment. An increasing amount of generated plastic and rubber waste requires suitable methods for their recycling. One of the greener applications of both materials is to use them in the production of thermoplastic elastomers (TPEs). However, made in this simple but inefficient way TPEs show poor mechanical performance as a result of incompatibility of polymer blends, hence their applications in industry are very limited. At Ecopolplast, we have created a process that allows mixing recycled scrap tyres with post-consumer plastic creating circular Ecoplastomers (TPEs) that are the greenest TPEs available globally, made exclusively of discarded recycled plastic and recycled tyre rubber and without any chemicals and additives. We have confirmed that our technology works (TRL 6) and now need EIC Accelerator support to scale up the technology.
