Objective
Oversonic Robotics Srl is an Italian deep-tech company founded in 2020, specialising in humanoid cognitive robotics for industrial and healthcare applications. Recognised among the 13 leading global players in humanoid robotics by CB Insight, Oversonic developed RoBee, the first CE-certified humanoid industrial robot designed to work safely alongside humans. RoBee has reached TRL8–9 and has already been commercially deployed with major manufacturing groups, supported by proprietary hardware, advanced robotics software, and a growing IP portfolio.The HIVE project will advance Oversonic’s edge-based Physical AI from TRL4 to TRL6 (Stage 1 and Stage 2), transforming RoBee into a mission-oriented, cognitively autonomous professional assistant. The innovation integrates multimodal perception (vision, depth, lidar, force/torque), Vision-Language Models (VLM), Vision-Language-Action (VLA), and deterministic motion control within a closed-loop on-board architecture (>2,000 TOPS AI acceleration). All perception and reasoning run fully on-premise with <20 ms latency, ensuring real-time responsiveness, cybersecurity compliance, and data sovereignty for high-value European industries.The use case planned with STMicroelectronics at its BEM facility in Malta addresses the autonomous Burn-In Board Cleaning process in semiconductor manufacturing in which RoBee will handle electronic boards, interact with machines and ovens, and manage sequential operations in a shared workspace without rigid reprogramming. Expected results include >85% task success under variability, 70–90% reduction in reconfiguration time, and increased flexibility and asset utilisation. Additionally, HIVE fully aligns with the EIC Advanced Innovation Challenge funding program on Physical AI by delivering intelligent perception and cognition, autonomous decision-making, and edge-native physical integration, enabling secure, trustworthy and human-centric professional robotic assistants for European industry.
