Objective
Critical-sector organizations in Europe currently rely on IT solutions that lack transparency and are governed by non-European jurisdictions. A central element of these systems is Virtual Machines (VMs), managed by hypervisors like VMware. After speaking with over 50 organizations, we found a clear demand for secure, neutral, and privacy-focused alternatives to legacy hypervisors.Neutrality is a deep-tech startup from EPFL developing a breakthrough hypervisor. Backed by €2.8M in seed funding from European investors, our team brings over two decades of experience in systems security, with hundreds of publications and multiple best paper awards. We have co authored the OKL4, seL4, and Barrelfish microkernels; and co-founded Open Kernel Labs, which was acquired by General Dynamics in 2012, and led to OKL4 shipping in billions of mobile devices, including iPhones. Our Advisory Board includes a Turing Award recipient, the co-inventors of seL4 and Barrelfish, and B2B unicorn founders who are advising us on Neutrality’s Go-to Market. We are developing a secure, neutral, and transparent alternative to VMware, tailored for European critical sectors. Unlike legacy hypervisors, which are prone to security flaws, we use formal verification to mathematically prove the absence of vulnerabilities. Our patent-pending multikernel architecture offers orders of magnitude more security without compromising performance. We have filed five pending patents and one PCT application, with plans for additional filings in key markets. With over one year of runway, we seek support from the EIC Accelerator to de-risk our technology. We seek funding to ensure we can reduce technological risks in the first year, positioning us for investment in year two. Support from the EIC will help us achieve these goals and accelerate our market entry. Our technology has reached TRL6 with our prototype proposed to be demonstrated in the operational environments of early adopters in 2026.
