Objective

Europe’s battery industry faces a dual crisis: performance ceilings and strategic dependence on graphite. Graphite, the main anode material (99% market share), limits energy density and fast-charging capability, capping EV ranges at 400 km and charging at 30–60 minutes. At the same time, the EU imports >90% of its battery-grade graphite from China, exposing OEMs to supply risks and price volatility. Demand is forecast at >550 ktpa by 2030, while EU domestic supply is <0.1%. Graphite also carries a heavy carbon footprint (9.8 CO2-eq/kWhstorage), conflicting with the EU Battery Regulation, which mandates carbon-footprint disclosure from 2025 and battery passports from 2027. Floatech delivers the first scalable 100% silicon anode, Si⋮Coil®, produced by our proprietary Floating Catalyst Chemical Vapour Deposition (FCCVD) process. This transforms silane gas directly into freestanding nanowire “silicon paper”, eliminating copper foil, binders, solvents, coating and drying. The result is an anode with 10× the capacity of graphite (3,100 mAh/g), >60% higher cell energy density (>350 Wh/kg in multilayer pouch cells), and >10× faster charging (<10 minutes). Our process reduces CAPEX by >20× and energy use by ~25% compared to competitors, enabling industrial scalability at €5/kWh projected cost, half that of graphite anodes. Protected by 3 patent families and >60 filings worldwide, Si⋮Coil® is validated at TRL6 with Fraunhofer Institue and CIDETEC, demonstrating 250+ deep cycles in pouch cells and compatibility with LIBs, SSBs and Li-metal systems. The global anode materials market will reach €45–50 billion by 2030, with silicon rapidly expanding as graphite saturates. Entry markets (portable electronics, drones) de-risk scale-up before EV adoption. Pilots with InoBat, Basquevolt, StorTera and Honda will deliver A-Sample (100s cells) and B-Sample (1,000s cells) validations, accelerating OEM qualification.
