Objective
Electric vehicle adoption in Europe is accelerating, but charging remains a bottleneck: most chargers depend on constant internet connectivity, making them costly, slow to deploy and unreliable in the urban environments where nearly half of Europeans live. Without a scalable, affordable solution for multi-unit dwellings and older buildings, the EU risks missing its climate and mobility goals.HeyCharge’s patented SecureCharge technology is the first offline-first EV charging platform, enabling secure and smart operation without internet or mobile networks. Using encrypted Bluetooth and cryptographic tokens, it reduces installation costs by up to 70%, works seamlessly in underground garages and retrofits existing infrastructure, while still supporting remote billing and updates. Our next-generation platform, SecureCharge FLEX, integrates advanced energy-management and grid services such as dynamic load management, bidirectional charging and demand response, delivering both cost efficiency and resilience at scale.Headquartered in Munich, HeyCharge is backed by BMW i Ventures, Statkraft Ventures, Y Combinator and others. With TRL 7 demonstrated across more than 150 sites in Europe and the US, and partnerships with industry leaders such as Vonovia, MEAG and HUMAX, we are poised to unlock the €23 billion semi-private charging market.Through the Breakthrough Innovations for Future Mobility Challenge of the EIC Accelerator, we seek €2.5 million to advance SecureCharge FLEX to TRL 8, finalise V2G and DLM capabilities, complete certifications and validate large-scale deployment. This high-risk innovation funding will de-risk our technology and catalyse a €26 million private investment round.By enabling low-cost and reliable charging where it is most needed, SecureCharge FLEX will close Europe’s urban charging gap, strengthen its clean-tech leadership and accelerate the transition to sustainable mobility.
