Objective
Inspired by aerospace engineering Leitspalt is reinventing the battery pack architecture of electric vehicles (EVs) by introducing a multifunctional cooling structure that fuses core functions of battery systems into one component. Current EV battery packs are complex, heavy, and inefficient, largely due to outdated “one component – one function” designs. Thermal management, structural support, and cell housing are treated as separate subsystems, resulting in excess weight, high cost, poor recyclability, and design rigidity. As electrification scales, these fragmented architectures are no longer fit for purpose, especially under the demands of fast charging, new battery chemistries, and circular economy regulation. Leitspalt’s patented technology fuses cooling, structural, and packaging functions into one lightweight component, delivering 4× better cooling performance, +7% energy density, 20% lower cost (on pack-level excl. cells), while improving recyclability. The system supports ultra-fast charging (<10 min), while reducing weight and complexity at the system level. Compatible with standard extrusion manufacturing processes and adaptable to all major cell formats, Leitspalt’s architecture is designed for large-scale adoption and seamless integration into existing automotive supply chains, while meeting upcoming regulations and current standards. Leitspalt operates with an asset-light licensing model, generating early service revenues from engineering projects and scaling through high-margin IP licensing. EIC Accelerator support will enable pilot-scale manufacturing validation and prepare the technology for integration into next-generation EV platforms. Leitspalt is poised to set the global standard for structural EV battery systems, unifying cost-efficiency, ultra-fast charging, and sustainability in one scalable solution.
