Objective

520 billion rigid food packages are consumed annually. Most of them made of plastic and not recyclable. Mounting regulatory pressure and consumer demand are driving brands to find alternative materials that are circular, yet scalable and cost competitive.Fibre is seen as a high-potential alternative to plastics due to its sustainability performance, but current technological shortcomings are limiting fibre’s scalability, cost-effectiveness, barrier functionality, and versatility. As a result, plastic is still dominating rigid food packaging.Celwise has developed a breakthrough thermoforming technology that overcomes the limitations of legacy fibre technologies. The patented technology enables replacing plastics with a sustainable and circular solution at scale and cost parity in rigid food packaging, without any compromises on functionality.Having demonstrated the complete, fully automatic production system with the performance level required to provide a viable alternative to plastic at a commercial scale, Celwise is ideally positioned to scale up fast in a fast-growing market estimated to be worth €9-10 billion annually.
