Objective

Sparrow Quantum (SQ) is a Danish quantum technology SME dedicated to advancing the frontier of light-matter interfaces, with a successful history in developing deterministic single-photon sources (SPS). Through strategic partnerships with system integrators and leading technology companies, our technology serves as the cornerstone for enabling significant industry milestones, such as Fault-Tolerant Quantum Computing and the Quantum Internet. Founded in 2015 in Copenhagen as a spin-out from the Niels Bohr Institute, the company leverages two decades of pioneering research led by Professor Peter Lodahl. In QPAIR, SQ will industrialise the Sparrow Entanglement Single Photon Source (eSPS) – the first deterministic, chip‑integrated device that emits strings of high‑quality entangled photons on demand. Today's quantum processors rely on probabilistic light sources that waste components, power and time. The eSPS removes this bottleneck by delivering reliable, high‑fidelity entanglement in a compact, silicon‑photonic platform. With support from the EIC Accelerator blended investment, SQ will optimise the eSPS specs, demonstrate its performance with hardware partners, initiate commercialisation and scale‑up. The blended investment will de‑risk SQ’s ambitious endeavour, leading to pilot sales in 2028 and opening the path to volume manufacture from 2030.QPAIR will foster a resilient European supply chain in quantum photonics, reinforcing European leadership in deep‑tech quantum hardware that underpins future digital and security infrastructures. By providing a deterministic, energy‑efficient entanglement engine, SQ empowers system integrators to build quantum computers and networks that are smaller, greener and more reliable than global competitors. In short, the EIC’s blended support will convert a groundbreaking laboratory achievement into a market‑ready product, positioning Europe at the forefront of the quantum revolution, while supporting high‑skilled job growth.
