Objective
The mining sector is under pressure to boost resource recovery, reduce waste, and minimize environmental impact. Yet, a critical inefficiency persists during the Run-of-Mine (RoM) stage—where raw material is first extracted—no real-time data is available to distinguish ore from waste. Existing sensing technologies function only during exploration or processing, leaving a data blind spot where the highest impact decisions could be made. Operators have no real-time way to distinguish ore from waste during hauling, leading to ore dilution, resource loss, and increased emissions. HYPERMINE has developed the first real-time hyperspectral analyser operable during RoM. Our patented innovation integrates a supercontinuum laser-based active hyperspectral sensor with ML-powered mineral classification software. Unlike passive camera-based systems, it operates in harsh, light-variable conditions without calibration, enabling in-situ, non-contact, per-bucket or per-truck mineralogical insights. It delivers up to 100x more management decision accuracy empowering mine operators to reduce waste, increase ore yield, and lower energy and water usage. Our value proposition includes 3–10% profitability increase, up to 10% energy savings, 15% water savings and 10% reduction in waste (tailings)—unlocking economic potential from lower-grade deposits. This has been validated through paid pilots (TRL 6) with a TOP5 mining company demonstrating successful integration and operation under relevant mining conditions. The system helps unlock lower-grade deposits, extend mine life, and align with the EU Critical Raw Materials Act. A bottom-up market analysis estimates a huge Total Addressable Market of €45.4B in 2025 driven by surging demand for CRM and efficiency mandates. The EIC Accelerator will fund the transition to TRL 9 via scale-up, certification and large-scale pilots. Our goal is to become the Europe’s next deep-tech unicorn in efficiency and sustainability in mining.
