Objective

Magics Technologies, a Belgian fabless semiconductor company founded in 2015, develops high‑reliability, fault‑tolerant, and radiation‑hardened chips for applications in space sector, after building extensive experience in rad-hard chips in nuclear sector. Conventional semiconductors are unsuitable for harsh environments and must undergo radiation‑hardening processes, which are costly and make them excessively bulky. In addition, Europe faces supply chain risks in rad-hard chips, due to reliance on external suppliers subject to export controls, that hinder future space infrastructure, for both civil and defence purposes. To address these challenges, Magics has created a proprietary Radiation‑Hardening‑by‑Design (RHBD) framework, integrated with modern CMOS processes, enabling rad-hard chips to be smaller, more reliable, and up to ten times cheaper than existing solutions. Its methodology combines validated design libraries, proprietary EDA tools, radiation datasets, internal guidelines, and in‑house accelerated testing.Magics’ products, currently at TRL 6 and targeting TRL 8, support intelligent sensing, timing, and actuation Systems‑On‑Chip. With the rapid growth of LEO and GEO satellite markets, the company is strategically positioned to reduce subsystem costs and complexity through SoC integration. Market projections suggest a USD 10 billion TAM for space electronics by 2033, with SOM for Magics being USD 1.14 billion. The firm already collaborates with ESA and major industry players such as Thales Alenia Space, and forecasts revenues exceeding EUR 30 million by 2030, scaling to EUR 200 million within a decade.Beyond commercial growth, Magics’ ITAR/EAR‑free solutions will strengthen Europe’s strategic autonomy under the EU Chips Act, lower satellite costs, and enable wider applications such as 5G/6G connectivity, Earth observation, and climate monitoring.
