Objective
The main objective of the EIC Accelerator project is to develop, deploy and scale up NitroCapt’s paradigm-shifting, climate-champion production process and to give the European industry access to efficient, innovative green technology offering the most competitive nitrogen fertilizers in large volumes. Today’s mineral nitrogen fertilizer production (Haber Bosch process) is an € 77 bn market and accounts for 2,7 % of the global fossil based greenhouse gas emissions, representing a major emission source of agriculture and food production. SUNIFIX® (Sustainable Nitrogen Fixation) is a patented climate-neutral process for the fixation of nitrogen with air, water and electricity as the only inputs. The process combines a novel, state-of-the-art energy-efficient plasma reactor technology, cutting-edge electromagnetic energy coupling and advanced heat recovery technology, making it outperform the fossil-based process also regarding energy efficiency and production cost. The process can operate on a variable power and is well suited for energy supply directly from renewable energy sources. By creating a local self-sufficient production of affordable nitrogen fertilizers, independent of remotely produced feedstocks, with high profits, there is significant incentive for a regional, distributed implementation of our technology with enormous positive climate impact. The proposed EIC project aims to take the next critical step by creating an easily scalable, modular production unit design, and demonstrating it at an industrial level at 600-kW (TRL8), followed by a commercial implementation of a First-Of-A-Kind 3MW plant, using five 600 kW-modules (TRL9). This market introduction will be a key market reference for our planned market expansion. With the support of EIC, we will enable a major reduction of CO2 emissions in the agriculture sector by introducing and quickly scaling the most sustainable, economic and resilient technology on the European and global market.
