Objective

The advent of 6G technology is set to revolutionize global connectivity, expanding the Internet of Things (IoT) to an unprecedented scale. Trillions of interconnected devices will transform sectors like healthcare, agriculture, industry, and smart cities. However, this rapid growth poses significant challenges, particularly in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A major issue is the ""trillion-battery problem"", which threatens sustainability due to frequent battery replacements, data gaps, and environmental risks. Addressing these challenges is essential for the successful deployment of 6G IoT networks. This project, ""autonoMous networked wIreLEsS power Transfer for zerO-eNErgy 6G massive IoT (MILESTONE-6G),"" aims to advance zero-energy device technology, which eliminates the need for batteries by harvesting ambient energy. These devices offer a sustainable alternative, reducing electronic waste and contributing to global sustainability (UN SDG 7) and innovation (UN SDG 9). However, critical challenges remain, including the need for self-adaptive power scheduling and secure wireless power transfer. MILESTONE-6G addresses these challenges through two key research goals: developing self-adaptive scheduling techniques for networked wireless power transmitters and creating robust defense mechanisms against malicious energy attacks. This multidisciplinary project will leverage cutting-edge technologies, including edge computing and intelligent reflective surfaces, supported by robust theoretical frameworks like communication and optimization theories.Aligned with global priorities in 6G development, MILESTONE-6G supports the European Union's goals, including the Horizon Europe's Pillar II, Zero Pollution Action Plan 2050, and the European Green Deal-Fit for 55, supporting a climate-neutral Europe by 2050. This project promises a sustainable, secure, and interconnected future, making it a vital scientific investigation for global progress.""
