Objective

There is an urgent need for solutions to tackle single-use plastic waste called multilayer plastic (MLP). While MLP are extremely valuable packaging materials, there is currently no mainstream technically and economically viable solution for recycling them. Fych has developed a patent-protected, ground-breaking recycling process to recycle MLP (ReMLP) and recover the full value of their polymers by removing inks, adhesives, odours, and other contaminants. To date, ReMLP can process 100 kg/day of the +10 most common post-consumer and industrial MLP waste. The success of our prototype plant has already brought in early adopters like FORMASPACK and attracted the interest of plastic recyclers who are struggling to process an overload of non-recyclable plastics and plastic converters who are demanding high-quality recycled plastic materials. We plan to commercialize ReMLP through direct turnkey plant sales (€1.5M/plant) while also generating revenue from royalties of recycled polymers, the supply of customized delaminating reagents and technical assistance for plant operation. We are requesting €2.3M in grant from the EIC to optimize the industrial process over 12 months to ensure the consistent recycling of 500kg/hour and obtaining food contact material approval of the recycled output. This milestone will pave the way to becoming an international reference in the plastic recycling industry. We are also requesting €4.5M in equity (50% co-investment between EIC and private investor)to bring ReMLP to a fully industrial scale of 1,000 kg/hour (TRL9) and leverage a future Series A from new shareholders for scale-up. This project will make 19 industrial ReMLP plants operational by 2029, thus avoiding: 25,080 tonnes of plastics ending up in illegal dumping grounds, 72,960 tonnes from leaking into the environment, the emission of >11,000 tonnes of CO2 associated to the incineration of non-recyclable waste and 80,927 tonnes associated with landfilling.
