About this report
PicoSaTs is an Italian innovator in high-frequency satellite communications for CubeSats. Founded in 2014 as a spin-off of the University of Trieste , the company designs miniaturized Ka-band transceivers (the “RADIOSAT” system) and related horn/patch antennas (“BEAMSAT”) for small satellite networks.
Its advanced systems address EU ambitions for autonomous space-based connectivity by targeting gigabit-class links and modular satellite bus technology (BRICSAT) while leveraging European R&D support. In late 2023, PicoSaTs validated its core space hardware through an in-orbit demonstration aboard D-Orbit’s ION satellite carrier .
Key questions this report answers
- What high-frequency satcom products (Ka-band RADIOSAT transceivers, BEAMSAT antennas, BRICSAT bus) does PicoSaTs develop for CubeSats?
- How mature is the technology after the 2023 in-orbit demonstration aboard D-Orbit's ION carrier?
- How do its gigabit-class links support EU autonomous space connectivity, and via which partners?
- What capability gaps and dependencies face this University of Trieste spin-off?
