Piaggio Aerospace (Baykar Piaggio Aerospace S.p.A.) is an Italian aerospace firm known for its P.180 Avanti executive turboprop aircraft and the unmanned P.1HH “HammerHead” maritime ISR platform. Founded in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio, the company evolved from general aviation into niche defense technology.
In 2024–25 it attracted attention when Turkey’s Baykar acquired the distressed Italian company under Italy’s golden-power oversight . Today, Baykar Piaggio Aerospace retains its Villanova d’Albenga (Liguria) and Genoa sites in Italy, combining Piaggio’s legacy industrial base with Baykar’s UAV expertise .
