About this report

Introduction (Free Preview): Battrion is a Swiss ETH-Zurich spin-off that developed a novel battery-anode technology (“Aligned Graphite®”) for lithium-ion cells. Its process aligns graphite particles in the electrode to dramatically improve charge/discharge speed .

This innovation holds promise not only for the electric-vehicle market but also for defense applications requiring high-power energy storage, potentially advancing European autonomy in critical battery supply chains. However, Battrion’s trajectory has been uneven: despite technical milestones (such as halving charge time in prototype cells ), the company faced financial difficulties and ceased operations in 2023 .
