About this report
Alpine Quantum Technologies (AQT) is an Austrian deep-technology spin-off founded in 2018, aiming to build the first rack-mount ion-trap quantum computer . Headquartered in Innsbruck, AQT leverages decades of local research on trapped-ion systems to deliver room-temperature quantum processors designed for seamless integration with high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure .
Its compact 19-inch rack systems (with all-to-all qubit connectivity and low-power operation) have already been sold to European research institutions and adopted by EU supercomputing centers .
Key questions this report answers
- What rack-mount ion-trap quantum computer does AQT build and how does it integrate with high-performance computing infrastructure?
- What is its technology readiness given sales to European research institutions and adoption by EU supercomputing centres?
- How do its trapped-ion research roots in Innsbruck shape its European strategic position?
- What capability gaps and dependencies affect its dual-use and defence relevance?
