Objective
FlexAmp will investigate a new method for flexible autonomous wiring harnesses assembly based on adaptable multimodal robot policies. The manipulation of deformable objects such as cables with a robot is a specifically challenging task and not widely used in practise, yet. In our approach, a bi-manual robot is taught individual manipulation tasks relevant for this application using teleoperation. It records relevant visual, tactile and force measurements in order to create generic robot policies for the autonomous task execution. It allows the robot to cope with varying environmental conditions in uncontrolled production environments or challenging material properties, therefore significantly reducing failures in the process execution. It also supports existing solutions to be transferred easily to different tasks and setups, without having to re-implement each individual task.
