Objective

The CBRN mission has acquired significant importance, based on increased awareness of such threats. According to both EUCP, key obstacles include limited public awareness, fragmented response protocols, and insufficient integration of detection, identification and monitoring (DIM) technologies for multiple CBRN threats. Coordination across borders and among agencies remains complex, often operating under a reactive decision-making approach, which impacts the rapid and effective response of practitioners. Thus, it requires a paradigm shift toward proactive capabilities, such as improved risk assessment by security practitioners and enhanced CBRN sensing capacity. The INTEGRA-CBRN project addresses key challenges in European CBRN risk management by enhancing awareness, coordination, and technological integration. It targets critical obstacles such as limited public awareness, fragmented response protocols, and insufficient integration of detection, identification, and monitoring technologies. The project aims to design, implement, test, and validate an integrated cross-border alert system for early detection and proactive decision-making. This will foster a harmonised and scalable EU response framework by integrating interoperable technologies, heterogeneous sensors, and multi-source data to accelerate preparedness, improve coordination, and strengthen collaboration among first responders and authorities. The consortium unites 15 partners from six EU Member States and Morocco, combining SMEs with expertise in CBRN detection and interoperability, medical and operational practitioners, as well as security and defence specialists. Finally, through a €0.8M FSTP mechanism, the project promotes standardisation, dissemination, and SME engagement. Additionally, international collaboration and end-user involvement will ensure the long-term sustainability and replication of the INTEGRA-CBRN ecosystem across Europe and neighbouring regions.
