Objective

The construction sector faces urgent challenges, including labour shortages, low productivity, high accident costs, and sustainability pressures. BRICKS addresses these through a novel approach to faster, safer, and more efficient construction based on advanced robotic systems, digitally enabled building components, data-driven planning, intelligent control, and coordinated multi-agent operation. The BRICKS methodology brings together complementary innovations in construction system design, robotic assembly, digital workflow integration, adaptive autonomy, and human-robot collaboration. It will enable reliable handling and assembly of modular building elements, flexible robotic operation across different construction conditions, and continuous alignment between design intent and on-site execution. The approach also supports robust perception, adaptive decision-making, and coordinated task execution in complex and changing environments, while ensuring safe interaction with human workers. Together, these advances will establish a scalable and flexible construction ecosystem targeting high-risk, high-reward innovation. BRICKS’s disruptive approach redefines on-site building design and assembly to ensure interoperability, adaptability, safety, and efficiency. The integrated ecosystem will be validated at TRL4 through compatible pilots, showcasing autonomous multi-robot-human assembly using a construction kit specifically conceived for robotic deployment.
