Objective
AIR-FERT will develop a revolutionary electrified modular device that captures nitrogen and sulfur oxides (NOₓ, N2O, SOₓ) from industrial and agricultural emissions and converts them directly into fertilizer precursors. The system integrates advanced, humidity-tolerant sorbents, precious-metal-free electrocatalysts, and 3D-printed, multifunctional monoliths, powered entirely by electricity. Operating at low temperature and ambient pressure, AIR-FERT combines sorption and electrocatalysis within a single platform, transforming pollutants into nitrate and sulfate solutions ready for fertigation. The technology will be validated at acid production plants, major NOₓ and N2O sources, and greenhouse CHP exhausts, linking clean air, circular fertilizer recovery, and higher crop yields. By coupling advanced materials, digital modeling, and life-cycle analysis, AIR-FERT will establish a new generation of waste-to-value devices, closing the nitrogen and sulfur loops and supporting Europe’s transition to zero pollution and climate neutrality by 2050.
