Objective
Mitiga Solutions, a Barcelona-based climate risk intelligence company, is developing Solara, the first climate-risk platform designed for energy operators. Solara quantifies asset-level damage, degradation, and financial loss using validated, high-resolution models. It fills a critical gap in Europe’s energy transition: the lack of decision-grade climate intelligence for renewable infrastructure and grid systems.Built on Mitiga’s proprietary Multiple Futures Model, Solara combines global climate models, reanalysis datasets, and ground observations to produce probabilistic hazard projections through 2100. These are downscaled to approximately 1 km resolution and integrated into physics-based impact models, enabling site-specific assessments of production losses, weather-driven ageing, and damage scenarios. Solara has successfully completed TRL5, validated in a global pilot with the world’s leading renewable-only energy company, achieving 92% accuracy across 10 sites.Mitiga is seeking €2.4 million in grant funding and €6 million in equity investment to advance Solara to TRL8, expanding its scope to include grid assets such as substations, distribution networks, and transmission lines. This will support the creation of a grid-wide resilience benchmark, helping regulators and investors assess climate exposure and adaptive capacity across Europe’s energy systems.Solara delivers clear economic and societal value. It helps reduce investment risk, lower financing costs, and optimise asset siting and maintenance. By translating climate risk into operational insights, it supports strategic planning, predictive maintenance, and insurance pricing, improving infrastructure performance and resilience.EIC support will accelerate Solara’s development and market adoption, strengthening Europe’s leadership in climate-resilient energy systems. By embedding climate intelligence into decision-making, Solara turns climate risk into a strategic advantage.
