Objective

COSMIC7 (Critical Onboard Space Microprocessor for Independent Capabilities on 7nm) is a strategic European initiative to develop a next-generation, radiation-hardened, high-performance microprocessor for space applications. Building on Europe’s strong heritage in SPARC-based processors and the shift toward the open RISC-V architecture, COSMIC7 will deliver a scalable, fault-tolerant processor with AI and vector acceleration, implemented in advanced 7nm FinFET technology. The project aims to achieve Technology Readiness Level 5 within three years, ensuring European non-dependency in critical space technologies and enabling future missions across communications, Earth observation, security, and deep space exploration.
