Objective
ENTENTE (“intEgrated terrestrial/Non-Terrestrial nEtworks, multi-conNectivity soluTions and tErminals”) addresses the Horizon Europe call on end-to-end SatCom mission capabilities by developing a modular Ka-band terminal and system architecture enabling seamless terrestrial (TN) and non-terrestrial network (NTN) integration. ENTENTE combines a low-profile electronically steerable flat-panel antenna, a dual-mode SDR-based modem, and 3GPP Rel-17/19 compliant procedures to deliver secure, resilient connectivity for mission-critical applications. The project advances beyond the state of the art by pioneering FR1-based Ka-band NTN operation, GNSS-independent synchronization, and dual-steer multi-connectivity frameworks based on ATSSS to guarantee <100 ms handovers and >95% service continuity. A dual validation approach will be pursued: laboratory testing with a flexible Ka-band channel emulator, followed by an in-orbit demonstration using a nanosatellite, achieving TRL 7 for the integrated terminal and network architecture. ENTENTE targets >20% cost and integration savings compared to dual-modem solutions and ensures a roadmap to strengthening European non-dependence of terminal components. The consortium unites major operators (Hispasat, Telefónica), industry leaders (INSTER, ND SATCOM), SMEs (Picosats, CELESTE), and research institutes (CTTC, DLR), covering the full value chain from antenna and modem design to system integration and validation. ENTENTE will contribute to 3GPP/ETSI standardisation, and accelerate industrial uptake, supporting IRIS² objectives and the European Partnership on “Globally Competitive Space Systems,” reinforcing EU strategic autonomy in next-generation secure space communications.
