Objective
EnduRAI advances the next generation of human-centric augmentation technologies to transform Europe’s manufacturing industries. The project responds to urgent challenges: labour shortages, high defect rates, physical strain, and difficulties in attracting new generations, by combining cutting-edge sensing, AI, and human–machine interface (HMIs) design. At its core, EnduRAI develops industrial-grade sEMG wearables with high-density electrodes and edge processing, capable of capturing fine-grained neuromuscular signals under harsh shopfloor conditions. These signals are fused with vision, inertial, environmental, and machine telemetry to deliver intent prediction, fatigue detection, and ergonomic risk assessment in real time. Multimodal AI models translate this data into actionable insights, while adaptive HMIs such as dashboards and haptic cues provide personalised support for workers and supervisors, both individually and in teams.Validation takes place in two demanding industrial use cases: high-precision pulley manufacturing and welding augmentation in confined-space shipbuilding. These pilots demonstrate EnduRAI’s ability to reduce fatigue-induced errors, improve quality consistency, enable safer teamwork, and create pathways for worker upskilling and reskilling. Social Sciences and Humanities partners embed inclusivity, ethics, and co-design throughout, ensuring acceptance, transparency, and compliance with GDPR, the AI Act, and OSH frameworks.EnduRAI will generate rugged sEMG kits, multimodal AI engines, adaptive HMI stacks, and compliance toolkits, with a way for commercialisation. The exploitation strategy will combine hardware kits, software licensing, and professional services with pathways for certification, training, and standardisation. EnduRAI will position Europe at the forefront of Industry 5.0 where technology augments rather than replaces human work, creating safer, more attractive, and sustainable industrial careers.
