Objective
Solution & Impact: Today’s nanomaterial tests reduce billions of data points to a single average, leaving manufacturers blind to why products fail. Our technology delivers a category-defining leap in nanomaterial quality control: a patented multimodal microscope providing real-time data for every individual nanoparticle - iNSyT ONE. Integrated, ultra-sensitive and high-throughput, it builds on interferometric scattering and fluorescence to achieve single-particle resolution down to 1 nm. It analyses thousands of nanoparticles per run while capturing structural, optical, and chemical properties. By replacing misleading averages with actionable insights, iNSyT ONE will transform R&D and production for quantum dots and other advanced materials. Designed to integrate into existing workflows, it delivers per-particle QC metrics in minutes. These real-time results feed directly into production to boost yields, reduce waste, and accelerate product release - fortifying Europe’s sovereignty in nanomaterial manufacturing.The Project: This project will mature the technology and validate the business case to reach investment readiness and market entry. It will advance iNSyT ONE from a lab prototype (TRL4) to an industrially piloted system (TRL6), maturing hardware and software for deployment in manufacturing environments. Activities span 36 months with a requested EU contribution of EUR 2.45 million.The University & the Company: In Months 1–12, LMU Munich will execute the R&D-intensive work packages. Leveraging the Nanoinstitute´s specialized optics facilities – instrumental in reaching TRL 4 - will be crucial to de-risk this development phase. From Month 13, iNSyT Solutions GmbH (to be founded in 2026) will assume coordination and lead prototype integration and pilot deployments. The technology builds on ERC PoC & StG grants, is validated at TRL 4, yielded publications Nature (2024) and Nature Materials (final review, 2025) and is protected by two EU patents and one PCT.
