Objective
IRINA2's ATM solutions aim to enable safe and efficient integration of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) into ATC-separated and non-ATC-separated airspaces with main focus, but not limited to, on airspace classes D, E and G, through a coordinated conflict management approach involving both onboard Detect-and-Avoid (DAA) systems and Air Traffic Control (ATC), when provided. These solutions support high and low performance RPAS of all types, including fixed-wing aircraft, rotary-wing platforms (e.g., helicopters), and VTOL-capable aircraft (VCA) and address technical (e.g., DAA function, communication) and operational aspects.ATC, when provided, and remote pilot procedures related to the use of DAA capabilities (e.g. ACAS Xu, ACAS Xr, EUDAAS) are being defined and validated for both nominal and non-nominal situations. In support of the DAA function, low performance (SWaP) surveillance sensors are being developed and validated to detect VFR traffic that may not be transmitting position data, i.e., onboard non-cooperative sensors (e.g., radar, EO/IR).IRINA2 supports airworthiness validation through RTS and performance modeling, and helps defines the technical specification for RPAS systems. The project considers the impact of RPAS integration on flight planning processes and also addresses cross-border RPAS operations and civil-military coordination. The project will enhance the implementation of regulations for complex UAS operations supporting regulatory efforts with EASA and ICAO together with standardization bodies (i.e., EUROCAE).
