Objective

Computational antitrust is what happens when antitrust intersects with computational tools (computer-based problem-solving methods, including AI and data analytics). These tools have significantly transformed antitrust in recent years, with an overwhelming majority of antitrust agencies now using them to tackle fast-moving markets—whether for detecting infringements, analyzing practices, or monitoring remedies. But while computational antitrust improves enforcement effectiveness, it raises pressing legal challenges. Computational antitrust is poised to collapse unless the legal framework governing data collection and processing by agencies is reformed to safeguard fundamental rights and ensure procedural fairness.ATLANTIS addresses these challenges by focusing on three areas: (1) ensuring accuracy in data collection without infringing defense rights; (2) promoting fairness by mitigating biases in AI tools used by antitrust agencies; and (3) securing the sustainability of computational antitrust through future-proof institutional frameworks.ATLANTIS will transform the field of antitrust by delivering multidisciplinary academic insights rooted in competition law, computational law and institutional economics to address the critical challenges of computational antitrust. ATLANTIS solutions will help antitrust agencies navigate the digital landscape and benefit society at large by lowering prices, addressing power imbalances, and protecting the integrity of free societies by mitigating market concentration risks—outcomes enabled by effective antitrust enforcement.
